  • The Pricing Rules module allows prices on sales orders to be adjusted based on the customer and other variables.
  • To create a new pricing rule, click the FBO New Icon Button.png New button. Each existing pricing rule is displayed in the search area on the left.

Main section

The first time you go to the Pricing Rules module, it will likely be empty. As you create pricing rules, they will be listed on the main page of this module under the following headers:

  • Select All - This checkbox allows you to select or unselect all pricing rules listed on the page.
  • Name - The name of a pricing rule.
  • Type - The Price Adjustment assigned to a pricing rule. There are four Price Adjustment types a pricing rule can be:
    • Markdown
    • Markup
    • Margin
    • Fixed
  • Date Created - The month, day, and year (MM/DD/YYYY) a pricing rule was created.
  • Date Last Modified - The month, day, and year (MM/DD/YYYY) a pricing was most recently updated and saved by a user.

Unlike most other modules in Fishbowl Drive, the Pricing Rules module doesn’t have a DELETE button that allows you to delete a pricing rule from the main page. To delete a pricing rule, you will have to click on it to open it up, and then click the DELETE button in the action bar.

Action bar in the main section

You will see the following options in the action bar at the top of the main page of the Pricing Rules module:

  • More - This gives you the option to change dates between Date Created and Date Last Modified.
  • ADD NEW - This opens a window to enable you to create a new pricing rule.

Change dates

If you click Change Dates under the More button, you will find you have two options:

  • Date Created - A permanent marker that denotes the month, day, and year (MM/DD/YYYY) a pricing rule was first saved.
  • Date Last Modified - A changeable marker that denotes the most recent month, day, and year (MM/DD/YYYY) a pricing rule was updated and saved by a user.

Picking one or the other will put it at the top of the Date column on the main page of the Pricing Rules module. You can pick whichever one will best help you organize the pricing rules in this module.

How to create a pricing rule

To create a pricing rule, click the ADD NEW button. It will shrink the list of pricing rules to a small window on the left, and the larger section on the right is where you can add information about the new pricing rule. There are no tabs in this module to switch between. When you open a pricing rule, all the information will be contained on a single page.

At the top of the new pricing rule is an action bar containing the following buttons:

  • SAVE - This saves the pricing rule and lets you stay and keep working on it. If a field is missing or needs to be fixed, clicking this button will highlight where the error is. And it won’t save until that field is filled with the correct information.
  • SAVE AND CLOSE - This saves the pricing rule and takes you to the main page of the Pricing Rules module. Just like the SAVE button, if a field is missing or needs to be fixed, clicking this button will highlight where the error is. And it won’t save and close until that field is filled with the correct information.
  • X - This button closes the pricing rule and returns you to the main page of the Pricing Rules module without saving. If you have unsaved changes, it will prompt you to save or discard them before leaving.

When you save a new pricing rule or open a previously saved one, there will be one more option in the action bar:

  • DELETE - This opens a popup for you to delete the pricing rule by clicking the red DELETE button on the bottom-right of the popup.

The area for creating/editing a pricing rule is separated into the following sections underneath the name and description:

  • Customers
  • Sale Items
  • Price Adjustment
  • Date Range
  • Quantities

Name and description

The following fields don’t have a section header, but they’re important for identifying the pricing rule and its usefulness. The required field is marked with an asterisk:

  • Name* - A textbox to enter a name for the pricing rule. The character limit is 255.
  • Description - A textbox to enter a description of what the pricing rule entails or its purpose. The character limit is 4,000.

Customers

This section allows you to choose who the pricing rule will apply to. There are three options:

  • Everyone - The pricing rule will apply to every customer.
  • Customer - A dropdown menu to select a single customer the pricing rule will apply to.
  • Tag - A dropdown menu to select the customer tag(s) the pricing rule will apply to. Bear in mind that if you select multiple tags, only customers who have all of the tags you select will have the pricing rule apply to them. If a customer has all of the tags except one, they will be excluded. This will likely be changed in the future. But for now, you will want to remember this when using tags.

Sale items

This section allows you to choose which sale item(s) the pricing rule will apply to. There are three options:

  • All - The pricing rule will apply to every sale item.
  • Sale Item - A dropdown menu to select a single sale item the pricing rule will apply to.
  • Tag - A dropdown menu to select the sale item tag(s) the pricing rule will apply to. Bear in mind that if you select multiple tags, only sale items that have all of the tags you select will have the pricing rule apply to them. If a sale item has all of the tags except one, it will be excluded. This will likely be changed in the future. But for now, you will want to remember this when using tags.

Price adjustment

This section enables you to select an upward or downward adjustment in price on the sale item(s). There are four options you can choose from. The other fields in this section will change, depending on the option above that you select, so we will include the corresponding fields underneath each option:

  • Markdown - The Average Cost or List Price will be decreased by the specified percentage for all applicable sale items.
    • Percent Decrease - A textbox to enter a percent decrease in price. It can have up to two decimal places. If you add three or more digits after a decimal point, it will either round up or down to the second decimal place.
  • Markup - The Average Cost or List Price will be increased by the specified percentage for all applicable sale items.
    • Percent Increase - A textbox to enter a percent increase in price. It can have up to two decimal places. If you add three or more digits after a decimal point, it will either round up or down to the second decimal place.
  • Margin - The Average Cost or List Price will be increased to provide the specified margin for all applicable sale items.
    • Margin Percent - A textbox to enter a percent the margin should be above the price. It can have up to two decimal places. If you add three or more digits after a decimal point, it will either round up or down to the second decimal place. Also, this number can’t be higher than 99.
  • Fixed - The new price will equal the fixed dollar value that is entered. You should probably only use this option if the pricing rule applies to a single sale item or ones with a very specific tag. If you applied this to all items, you’d run the risk of pricing extremely different-costing items at the same amount and either overcharging or failing to earn a profit on at least some of them.
    • Fixed Price - A textbox to enter a fixed dollar amount that the sale item(s) will be priced at.

For Markdown, Markup, and Margin, there is one more dropdown menu that appears. It is called Relative to, and it enables you to increase or decrease the amount of money charged for sale items relative to one of these two options:

  • Average Cost - The average value of inventory that is in stock.
  • List Price - The price set in the Sale Items tab of the Items module.

Date range

This section enables you to select a date range for the pricing rule to be active. If you leave this section blank, it will remain in effect indefinitely. There are four options you can choose from in the dropdown menu:

  • This Week - Starting the most recent Monday and going through this Sunday.
  • Next Week - Starting this Monday and going through next Sunday.
  • Next Month - Starting the first day of the following month and continuing until the end of that month.
  • Next 7 Days - Starting today and continuing for the seven following calendar days.

The From and To fields will reflect the selection you make from the dropdown menu. In addition, you can enter a date in the following format (MM/DD/YYYY) into each field for a custom date range. Or you can click the calendar icon on the right of each field to select a date from the calendar.

Quantities

This section enables you to enter minimum and maximum quantities of sale items that the pricing rule will apply to. Bear in mind that these apply to a single transaction, and they won’t limit the number of items a single customer can purchase at a specific price adjustment in multiple transactions.

  • Min - A textbox to select the lowest number of sale items a transaction must include for the pricing rule to be applied. A customer can purchase fewer than the min number, but they will not receive the price adjustment.
  • Max - A textbox to select the highest number of sale items the pricing rule will apply to in a single transaction. A customer can purchase more sale items than the max number, but all units that are above that number will not receive the price adjustment.

If you set the Min and Max at 0 or leave it untouched, there will be no limit to the number of sale items in a single transaction that the pricing rule will apply to.
