  • The Carriers module allows shipping carriers to be created and modified.
  • To create a new carrier, click the FBO New Icon Button.png New button. Each existing carrier is displayed in the search area on the left.
  • To import carriers from a spreadsheet or CSV file, click the More Icon Button.png More button at the top of the item list and choose Import Carriers.
  • To create a template file with the correct column headers, click Export Carriers.
  • The suggested order of CSV imports for new databases can be found here.
  • For a step-by-step tutorial on working with CSV files, check out the CSV video here.
  • Below is a list of the CSV columns. All column headers are required. Columns with an asterisk must contain data.
    • Carrier-Name* - The name of a carrier responsible for shipping items.
    • Carrier-Description - A brief explanation of a carrier.
    • Carrier-Scac - The Standard Carrier Alpha Code of a carrier.
    • CarrierService-Name* - The name of a shipping service provided by a carrier (e.g., Same Day, Air, Ground).
    • CarrierService-Code - The identifying code number assigned to a carrier’s service.

Initial carriers

When you first open the Carriers module in the Sandbox environment, it will contain four carrier options by default:

  • Will Call
  • FedEx
  • USPS
  • UPS

FedEx, USPS, and UPS contain many prepopulated shipping services within them. This is a helpful starting point, but you are welcome to add more carriers. You can do that by using a CSV import, as mentioned above, or by adding ones individually, as described below.

Main section

The main section of the Carriers module contains information about each carrier that has been created. This information is organized under the following column headers:

  • Name - Each carrier’s name.
  • Description - A brief explanation of each carrier, which may include a longer version of its name, its service area, and/or a summary of its services.
  • Date Created - The month, day, and year (MM/DD/YYYY) each carrier was created.
  • Date Last Modified - The month, day, and year (MM/DD/YYYY) a change to each carrier’s information was most-recently saved.

Action bar

The action bar in the main section of the Carriers module contains two buttons:

  • More - The More Icon Button.png More button displays three options when you click it:
    • Import Carriers - Use an Excel spreadsheet to upload carriers into this module, as noted above.
    • Export Carriers - Download a CSV file containing all of the information about your carriers. This enables you to generate a template for importing carriers, too, as noted above.
    • Change Dates - This brings up two options you can change the date in the header to:
      • Date Created - A permanent marker that denotes when a carrier was first saved and added to the system.
      • Date Last Modified - A changeable marker that denotes the most-recent date that a carrier was edited by a user.
  • ADD NEW - Launches the New Carrier page to create a new one.

NOTE: You can’t delete a carrier from the main section of the Carriers module. You can only do that by clicking a carrier’s line item and then clicking the DELETE button in the action bar.

How to create a new carrier

To manually create a single carrier, click the ADD NEW button in the action bar of the main section of the Carriers module. Then fill out the following fields. The required field is marked by an asterisk:

  • Name* - A textbox to enter the carrier’s name, e.g., DHL.
  • SCAC - A textbox to enter the Standard Carrier Alpha Code if one is available, e.g., DHLC.
  • Description - A textbox to enter additional information about the carrier, e.g., Dalsey, Hillblom, and Lynn.

Repeat this process as many times as you like to record all of the carriers you use to ship items in and out of your warehouse(s). There is no limit to the number of carriers you can create in Fishbowl Drive.

Services

The Services section is under the main textboxes. Click Add New Service to create a line with the following fields, the first of which is required:

  • Name* - A textbox to enter the name of a shipping service, e.g., Next Day, Ground, Saver, Media Mail, Standard, Priority.
  • Code - A textbox to enter the number associated with a shipping service. These codes are generally two or three digits long.

Click the icon to the right of a service to delete it. A message will pop up asking you to confirm your choice to delete it. Click the red DELETE button to complete this process.

When saved, these services will appear in the Service dropdown menu in the General tab of individual line items in the Sales Orders module, Shipping module, and Purchase Orders module. New shipping services can’t be created from the Service dropdown menu in those modules. That can only be done from this section of the Carriers module.

Action bar in a carrier

Once you have entered the carrier’s name and other details about it, you can save them and take other actions by using the following buttons in the action bar:

  • SAVE - This saves the carrier to the system and lets you stay on this screen.
  • SAVE AND CLOSE - This saves the carrier to the system and returns you to the main section of the Carriers module where you will see all of your saved carriers.
  • DELETE - This opens a popup for you to delete the carrier (after they have been saved) by clicking the red DELETE button on the bottom-right of the popup.
  • X - This closes the carrier without saving it. If there are unsaved changes, a message will ask if you want to save before closing.

How to delete a carrier

To delete a carrier, click its line item in the main section of the Carriers module, and then click the DELETE button in its action bar. Clicking this button brings up a message asking you to confirm your decision. Click the red DELETE button to complete this process.

If the carrier is connected to a sales order and/or purchase order, it won’t be able to be deleted. You will first need to remove it from everywhere that it is used outside of the Carriers module in order to delete it.
